The owners of my local Japanse restaurant, who are Chinese, have a daughter who is, I estimate, 10 years old. She speaks fluent Dutch, without any accent, her English is impeccable and her Chinese appears to be fluent too. That's three languages.

that is nice for her. but being bilingual is nothing really special, esp for kids who grow up in multilingual environments.

Well... My nephew was born in Sydney, and moved to San Francisco when he was 4 or 5.
His parents, my brother and sister-in-law spoke Dutch at home, but never made an effort to teach him Dutch. Of course he picked up quite a bit, but his Dutch was pretty bad when they moved to Belgium three years ago.
And it's still far from perfect, and the American accent is still very thick.
