Okay thanks. I was going to ask if you are running Android or another OS on it. It is possible that a new OS may make it run better if the issue you describe is software in original and the hardware is still good.

Haven't installed it yet, only unboxed and charged it.

Right after the sushi I sort or collapsed on the couch, woke up close to midnight. I slept till very late today, was just in time for the rehearsal of the band, and went to a friend for an evening of board games right after that.

Tomorrow will be the day (or better: later today) to install stuff. No #Google account (no sir-ee Bob), so everything is going to be installed from @F-Droid. I'll keep my old Samsung as a backup, because as soon as /e/OS is ready for the Fairphone 4, I'm reinstalling it with that. The good people at /e/ expect to deliver "early 2022".

Yup, not much choice for this device, I think. But I have no problem with Android, my problem is with Google. And since /e/ takes Google out of Android, I want /e/ :-)

Not that I know. I'm still waiting for my Librem 5 to be delivered, that one runs a modified version of Debian.

But the only thing I hear from @Purism is "opportunities to invest". Starting to think I might never see that phone, I ordered it 2 years ago.

I've sort of "degoogled" my version of Android 11 on the Fairphone 4, but I'lll flash it with /e/ as soon as it's ready. They expect to deliver "early 2022". Wish I could have bought the 4 with /e/ pre-installed, but you can't always get what you want...

For now I've disabled everything Google and silenced the plethora of apps that keep screaming they need Google to work. Haven't found out how to do that for the Phone app, I can't seem to override its settings.

Also: Android 11 is quite different from Android 6, which I've used for the last 6 years or so.

No no, I don't want to disable the Phone app, I just want it to shut up about not having Google available ;-)
