I picked Friendica so I could follow people on Diaspora as well as Mastodon. I couldn't figure out Hubzilla at the time; it sounded like it could do way more than a regular open FB/Twitter clone, but what?

Good to see that lots of people leave #Twitter for the #Fediverse, and good to know that less and less people can say that they don't know any alternatives. Sure, there will be some growing pains on the various #Mastodon instances, but I foresee a bright future.

As always: be nice to refugees, whether they flee poverty, war or Musk. Let's give them a warm welcome.

I do not mean to criticize such a nice statement, but would like to emphasize the possibilities here:
Users like Hans do not have to be on the same platform, not even using the same system. The Fediverse is a protocol space of the internet where people can interact across system boarders. So @Hans is posting from an Hubzilla server to you on a Mastodon server (That's like talking from my personal Facebook Raspberry Pi to your best buddy's Twitter server).

One thing I welcome in regards to Elon Musk's purchase is his statement about "open source." Likewise his statements in regards to making Tesla's patents open. Embracing Free Software is a good thing and I hope Musk follows through. But we don't need to wait for that. We have Free Software based social media already in existence. Embracing Free Software is a good thing and I hope Musk follows through.

Open source software and open standards are a good thing indeed: in the long run it's better for everybody, Eric S. Raymond explains it well in The Cathedral and the Bazaar.

But I wouldn't hold my breath, Musk is only interested in Musk.

I haven't check on the details @Hans van Zijst, but I do believe Musk made Tesla patents open awhile ago. I also believe Tesla has complied with the GPL in regards to source in their cars. The later, my understanding, was a bit more of them dragging their feet until the realized the legal obligations they were under. For what it's worth I advocate for Free Software in part because it is good for business. In the same way "free roads" are better than toll roads in regards to business. Cheers, -Randy

They should have quit Russian gas a long time ago. It's ridiculous that the EU is still funding the Russian war machine.

Weird that Russia isn't cutting off other countries, though. Isn't Germany the biggest buyer of Russian gas? I guess Putin can't really do without that money, and so only cuts off smaller countries.

@Thaha Jemni Ik snap het wel hoor: veel mensen die 2 jaar niet in serieuze drukte hebben gezeten dicht op elkaar, in combinatie met alcohol... Dat kan best misgaan.

Aan de andere kant... Op muziekfestivals is een groot deel van de bezoekers ook katje-lam, maar daar heb ik het maar 1 keer goed mis zien gaan.

@Thaha Jemni En de afgelopen 2 jaar is duidelijk geworden dat er aardig wat wappies in NL wonen, die ook niet meer te beroerd zijn om zich vreselijk te misdragen als er iets niet naar hun zin gaat.

Dus ik snap wel dat veel gemeenten zo weinig mogelijk alcohol in de mix willen hebben.
