Cats, computer work and the difficult balance

I'm working on my laptop. Not as comfy as the real PC that's upstairs, but I don't want the #
cats in that room. They're too nosy and could actually do dangerous stuff in there, crawling behind the various machines and gnawing on cables.
I like their company as much as they like mine, so I sit in my living room with the laptop if possible.
There are three stages here. In the first, the whole family is playing, running around, chasing each other and needing my supervision.
Second stage is most of them gnawing on the cables I have here, trying to stand on my laptop and swatting at the mouse cursor. Cute, but that makes it virtually impossible to get any work done.
At the moment we're at the third stage: the whole feline family is out cold, sleeping next to me:
