That's just 70M users signed up. I'm sure a *very* low percentage of those signed up will stay active after the initial sugar rush, especially once the non-celebrities/influencers discover how invisible they are there (it's worse in that respect than Twitter ever was).
It's just plain better here in the Fediverse.

Here I can recuperate my mind communicating with like-minded people and then go back to face our confused society again.

Mastodon has a built in user base of 0 basically so that’s a total gain of 1.6M, Instagram has a built-in user base of like 800M, so Threads has 730 Million people who aren’t on it yet. So if you think about it one way, more people will choose not to use Threads than will choose to join Mastodon.
If my math checks out that’s a good thing.

one step at a time.. also eventually people will realize proprietary social media is about vacuuming up as much data as possible. so algorithmically generated ads can be algorithmically suggested, after the “deep state” or whatever people call it. algorithmically determines weather or not said user is to be deemed a nonperson or not, will then hopefully click on said ad.
