I mean, you click on 'federated' or even 'local' and you will indeed see a pile of comments rolling past faster than you can read. But on your own stream? You gotta seed it with stuff, or your friends do. If you've got a bunch of people all waiting for someone else to start a conversation you're not going to have a conversation.
