@V. T. Eric Layton I see no problem in big, although things will surely chance a bit of the Fediverse becomes really big. I've seen it happen in the last few weeks already.

It's still very well possible to keep your own world here small, the Fediverse offers all kinds of tools to shut out the people you don't want to see.

The different parts of the #Fediverse don't grow at an equal pace either: the vast majority of people who leave the aviary flock to #Mastodon, which uses #ActivityPub. I have seen a torrent of new users on Mastodon, but I haven't noticed anything on #Hubzilla or #Diaspora*.

I think the Fediverse, because of its federated nature, can grow really big and still cater to everyone's wishes. And I firmly believe the world is better off with a huge Fediverse than with a handful of big, profit-driven walled gardens with algorithms that only benefit the share holders and not the users.

But I understand your concerns, don't get me wrong. I've seen Twitter behaviour seep in: short, unfriendly and disrespectful reactions, sales pitches and even a few full-on ads. We don't want any of that, we share that attitude, @V. T. Eric Layton.

Oh, I definitely agree with this!

And actually, Diaspora already has its share of assholes. I spot them regularly when looking through the Public stream. Of course, many of them probably think I'm an asshole. ;)
