It would be politically very difficult for any government to make restrictions on freedom of speech at the sort of behest of Erdogan, who is running a country that right now does not rank well when it comes to freedom of speech.

Well, apparently an overwhelming "no way" response by European leaders made #Erdogan understand he was asking for the impossible, and withdrew that demand.

Good that it turned out this way. I suppose, it was good thing to respond to Erdogan "No prob - All you have to do is clean up your democratic and humanitarian backyard - we have always been open. But in case you forgot: Let's talk about the requirements for any country to join the EU, and contrasting that to current pracices in Turkey via the press, shall we...?"

Talking of that type responses: I do not get in the first place why Sweden tried so hard to accommodate Erdogans blackmailing... Why did they not respond with "No prob :slight_smile: After all thos decades of grooming for us, we thought you might be interested that we are open now - But hey, it worked fine as it was. We'll just practice together once in a while, and leave that entry gate covered with our forces only, and in case it's needed, we are sure you will come up with ideas how to protect that boarded on short notice. Drop us a note in case you change your mind - We'll have another voting among our liberal people to see they are still interested..."
