🌐 Many companies now block older browser versions from accessing their websites!

This follows many #browser makers ending updates 4 older operating systems, leaving legacy devices unable to use #web services without an #OS upgrade.

This kinda reminds me of the Java #website block by browsers a few years ago, just in reverse. (Revenge? ;)

Old #Android versions are also increasingly blocked from accessing the #Google #appstore.

Truly about security or perhaps Planned Obsolescence?

Any website that refuses to talk to me because of that, can find itself another visitor, because I won't be visiting anymore.

More websites (pretty much all) need a html only offering without the need for JavaScript to be operational, especially .gov sites

This would keep the websites accessable

I believe that we need our devices capable of running Linux so community can maintain & push newer versions of Linux to older hardware

However, Android 5 needs to be laid to rest & I am in the camp that disallowing those devices from Google Play is likely the right move for Google plus reduces potential bot nets

@madeindex I also was going to say . . . "linux, anyone?" . . . FOSS with regularly updated browser . . . more or less runs on any machine up until around 20 years old and even then, will run, but needs attention.

@madeindex I seriously doubt it’s for ‘security’ whatever they might claim to the contrary.

I don’t use outdated browsers (unless you count lynx at times which I guess they do) but this reminds me of trying to stop ad blockers. I am not responsible for your failing business model.

It also reminds me of paywalls.

Very few entities are so special and unique that you can’t get similar content elsewhere but they (arrogantly) believe otherwise. Only their loss.

Some more thoughts on this:
old devices can only use old os > old os can only use old browser > old browser cannot use web> poor uneducated people = screwed once again!

It's only suggesting corporate browsers, kinda like an ad.

Actually even more than suggesting:
"Please update to the latest version OF THE FOLLOWING browsers: CHROME EDGE FIREFOX SAFARI OPERA"
