It’d be nice if you could slap a
fediverse:
proto onto links to toots and such, so that
https://toet.dnzm.nl/max/RANDOM_TOOT_ID
would become
fediverse://toet.dnzm.nl/max/RANDOM_TOOT_ID
.
Following that link wouldn’t take you to some rando’s activitypub server, but open up your favorite app (which should be
@Tusky, because Tusky is great). Web clients can easily translate the URLs on the fly.
It’d be like
mailto:
and
ftp:
links that have been around since forever, and more recently
gemini:
. The web is more than plain HTTP (even if a lot of stuff defaults to being built on top of it, these days).
Who wants to point out the fatal flaw in this that I undoubtedly overlooked?
