All cinemas in our country are closed because of the corona lockdown, but I happen to live near the Belgian border, and cinemas in Belgium are open. I didn't really want to be one of those countless Dutch who swarm to Belgium to evade the lockdown in our own country, but I went with my brother and he lives in Antwerp, so I call it a family visit :innocent:
So, first of all, I got to drive my new car again. They didn't make any films about it, but it sure is a fantastic beast: very, very comfortable, distinctive styling and very rare. What a joy to drive it. @
Ronald Corel seemed to like it too, he was my passenger.
Anyway, we went to see
Matrix Resurrections, the fourth episode of the series. Part one is still one of the best films I've ever seen, even though it's been 22 years since it was released. The few trailers I had seen didn't make me very hopeful; they suggested it would mostly be a regurgitation of part 1.
If you haven't seen it yet: DON'T WORRY! I'M NOT GOING TO SPOIL IT. I'll only tell what I think of it, I won't give anything away about the actual film.
Well, I was wrong to fear a remake! Sure, there's a lot from the previous parts in it, both actual material from 1999 and newly shot scenes and dialogs that are (sometimes!) exactly the same, but it's never a remake of the old film: it's original. Lana Wachovski has done a wonderful job of using the older stories as a sort of different dimension in this one, there were moments where I thought of Inception...
I'll have to see it again, because I think I might have missed a few things here and there. Not everything made sense to me, but I remember having that same experience with parts 1 and 2: you have to see them a few times to really get everything.
If you like The Matrix and The Matrix Reloaded (nobody really likes The Matrix Revolutions, right?), I would definitely recommend seeing this one!
