This has been bothering me for years, so I though I'd ask the Fediverse's take on this. This is going to be a long post, but I'm sure you people have nothing better to do than read my brain fruits anyway 😏
I'd like some insights from people who actually speak #

Those of you who've followed me for a while, know that I like #
music. Lots of it, if you browse through my
music category here, you'll find lots of different styles. I can read sheet music, I can play the horn, so I like to think I know a few things about music.
I also have a thing with #
language and beautiful texts. Not a big fan of #
poetry though. As artistic as it can be, it just doesn't usually do it for me. For me texts are primarily about content, not so much shape. Shape should follow meaning and/or context.
Now let's get on with it. This song here, the Lazy Song by Bruno Mars, feels wrong. The lyrics don't follow the context: the metre, the music and the meaning.

"Today I don't feel like doing anything"
I guess that probably explains the title. Not much poetry, but he wasn't aiming for a Nobel.
But both the music and the metre put the emphasis on "like", the F-Sharp.
That's odd, isn't it? Why would you want to put the emphasis on "like", you'd want it on "not", right?
"Today I feel like not doing anything"
Second time around is better: "I just wanna lay in my bed" fits perfectly in both metre and music.
And here's my dillemma. English isn't my mother tongue, I think I've mastered it pretty well, but I'll always miss some of the fine details.
I think my version is better, because it fits in metre and music, and would even express the meaning of the song better: "I don't feel like" expresses a negative feeling, while the music is happy and looking forward to a day of... well... whatever P90X is. "Feeling like not doing anything" expresses looking forward to just that: not doing anything.
So, what do you think? Should I shut up already? 😂
