Today I became a paying member of the Matrix Foundation. If you care about private communication without surveillance, maybe you should too.

As many of my followers will know, I'm an avid #
Matrix user. I fell in love with it the moment I first read about it, and I've run my own homeserver for more than 6 years now.
I've bought merchandise, I volunteered for #
FOSDEM (but couldn't, because I fell sick) and have tried to onboard people since the beginning. Some people find that annoying, but I'm doing it for the greater good that is private communication without #
surveillance.
Today I finally put my money where my mouth is, and I became a member of the @
The Matrix.org Foundation. I'm not rich, so I had to settle for €10 a month, but if half of all the serious Matrix users would do that, the Foundation would be out of the woods.
Spread the word, donate and most of all: use Matrix!
@matrix has gone from $0 to $561K in recurring revenue in just 2 years. But our expenses run $1.2M/yr.
We've burned through reserves and are at a crossroads.
It's the classic FOSS funding problem: use and adoption are at an all-time high, wealthy companies and countries use it, and secure decentralized comms have never been more important. And yet we can't pay our bills.
YOU have a role to play in shaping what comes next:
