@Fox Ritch That's only logical, they have very different goals.

Twitter's goal is to spread messages Eloon likes as quickly and as far as possible, and to make money. It's Eloon-centered.

The vast majority of Mastodon admins are only in it to provide people with a decent place to exchange messages. These instances are user-centered.

@Fox Ritch Moah, not sure about easier. HZ does a lot more than Mastodon, a lot more.

Reason why I picked HZ 5 years ago, was that it speaks every protocol around. I wanted ActivityPub for Mastodon, but I also wanted to connect to Diaspora*.

@hans well hubzilla runs on a webserver wich makes it far easier to install and run then mastodon. also i just realised my hubzilla instance just broke lol

@Fox Ritch HZ speaks the Zot6-protocol, but I have enabled the ActivityPub plugin, so it also speaks that. So, it's also a "normal" Mastodon server.

It doesn't need a relay to send or receive messages. You'd want a relay to beef up your federated feed if you have very few users on your instance.
