I know many lovely souls in RU, but they must adapt to the system, and times of famine, displacement, authoritarianism...

I'm sure the Russian love their children too. And I'm sure the majority of the Russians don't want this war either, but speaking your mind in present day Russia is a serious health risk.

Exactly so. I won't bore you (or avoid still more work!) by describing what I saw myself in Moscow, and learned from students, researchers/professors, and daily life.

For sure, those I stay in touch with are - after being fuzzy about what was really happening at first - scattered if they could, to safety and places where they could speak truth to family, bathing in state-sponsored #disinformation (better than Murdoch/Fox!) Some are Ukrainian themselves or mixed within family and friends. Many younger people scattered about Europe, Scandinavia and Israel, while my older uni faculty friends stay quiet and limit their ever-growing disgust and awareness of the extent of it, to hidden innuendo, jokes etc. Offline. Coping.
