I finally have an account on #Telegram, but of course without running their app anywhere. Bridging Telegram to #Matrix was pretty easy, too bad they wanted my phone number to create an account.

So, one client on my phone for Matrix, Telegram and #Signal.

@sammi @hans Per my current understanding bridges can be E2BE (end to bridge encription) like mautrix-signal, but they all have to decrypt and re-encrypt when things go from one network to another.
That's why it's better to run the bridges yourself.

@Marco @As The World Turns Correct. The connection between Telegram and the bridge is E2EE, and the connection between the bridge and Matrix too. But indeed: the bridge has to decrypt and re-encrypt messages.

@As The World Turns @Marco The bridge runs on my #Matrix server, so I'm the only one who has access to it. Of course, my users can interact with it via Matrix, that's the whole idea of it, but I'm the only one who can see its logs or database.

@As The World Turns No, it doesn't store unencrypted messages, as far as I know. All I've seen so far was encrypted.

@As The World Turns I didn't see much that I could recognize, but I'm sure I could discover a few things if I tried.

If you don't trust the admin(s) of a server, you might not want to use that server for private communication. The bridge is written in Python, so it should be very easy to modify the code so that it logs everything, including the unencrypted messages.
