I'm not into #EuroVision and I'm not going to watch it, but I really like this year's #Dutch attempt: #Europapa by Joost Klein.

I had never heard any of his work, although I've know the name for years. And then he presented his song, somewhere last month.

I like it, I really do. It's an #earworm.

So I needed a bit of background, who is this dude really, what's this song about? This pretty much sums it up:

@Monika Barget That's what resonated in me too, yes! The days of "hakkuh" and 2Unlimited.

This song has a very direct reference to those days that most non-Dutch will probably miss. The bald guy in the car, during the interlude, is Ruben van der Meer. Back in the days responsible for a few (parodic) hits in the Dutch lists, especially this one: "daar is gabbertje"

I'm not even considering translating that, it's mostly nonsense and stuff that's impossible to translate. Take my word that it's a parody, the lyrics are pretty funny and the music is pretty much the sound of many bars in the nineties. Even though the melody is from a children's TV show from the sixties, Swiebertje.
