We should probably look at options to like or dislike accounts, something Eloon would call "community notes". A way to see how many people thinks this account is decent, or spreading crap.

@Onno Uittenbogaard Die heb ik in Hubzilla ook, een nieuwere variant van Friendica.

Maar dat doet niet wat ik bedoel. Je zou als gebruiker en like/dislike moeten kunnen geven aan een account die anderen kunnen zien. Een soort moderation, iets waar je een filter op kunt baseren.

Deze dropveter komt in eerste instantie redelijk over, maar blijkt gewoon een Kremlin-apologist te zijn. Ik zou de rest van de Fediverse daarvoor willen kunnen waarschuwen.

I would like a way to signal to other users that I think this account is spreading desinformation. But I understand that something like that is very difficult on a federated world like the Fediverse...

I don't pretend my "ignore" list does anything to solve the problem. It just makes the problem less visible to me.

The ability to do more robust blocking, and to share blocklists would definitely be tools that do more.

It's not difficult on a technical level to do this, what's difficult is devising a system that is satisfactory. Any system has flaws that may either be abused or may be considered bad by some people.

Hubzilla and its direct predecessor Redmatrix once had and maybe still has community hashtags. There were some issues representing them in ActivityStreams/ActivityPub so I don't know if they made it past the migration to zot6.

Hubzilla also once had decentralised user ratings and might still have the ability to like/dislike accounts (actually channels) as well as arbitrary things (Joe likes Edna's moustache, Greta likes Metallica's black album, that kind of thing).

Basically, when all the silos and even the major open social web players de-federated with Friendica in 2011 and 2012 we started looking beyond traditional social networking and spent a lot of time finding out the limits of what can be accomplished with decentralised networks. (Spoiler: there are none). Some of these initiatives can be brought back now that ActivityPub has a well documented basis for signed objects.

The user rating feature was hopelessly flawed and people hated it, but it was built on a truly open scale. You could rate anybody from -100 to +100, and we recognised that some would consider it a badge of honour to be rated negatively by your enemies. So you might have entire clusters of people with -100 ratings who would be quite happy with that rating. What was important is that the ratings of your friends and followers had more weight than those of total strangers. So Christians (for example) might rate Buddhists lower, but in the Buddhist communities, the situation would be reversed. That's a horrible example so replace with emacs users and vi users if you prefer.
