For us, it's a normal heat wave at this time of year, @Hans van Zijst. We're in the rainshadow of the coast mountains and a notch or two moister than desert. But we had a heat dome three summers ago and it hit 47.5C on our back deck. That led to our first air conditioner as cooling our house passively--drawing cooler air from the basement--wasn't working anymore. 42 is the hottest it's been so far this year. It's a good number -- the "meaning of life, the universe, and everything." Ha. We're supposed to be back in the balmy low 30s next week.
