Your reminder that this isn't Mastodon, this is the Fediverse. And you can optionally use Mastodon, or many other pieces of fantastic software, to access the Fediverse.
Tell your friends.

Fediverse refers to programs that use the ActivityPub protocol. Diaspora isn't one of those. It is in the Federation.

Disagree. The Fediverse is not defined as using the ActivityPub protocol.

I agree with you but unfortunately to many, ActivityPub just *is* the Fediverse -__-

Let's agree that there are different "definitions" of the Fediverse. After the big TwitterMigration started, some people apparently redefined it as "anything ActivityPub", whereas before it was a broad collection of similar applications.

This site uses a different definition, it includes stuff like Diaspora* and GNUsocial. It's the one I stick to, I like the diversity.

I am not sure what to think of this. I do see both the (open source) apps and the protocol ActivityPub as the FediVerse. You make an interesting distinction.
Reflecting on this, pre-twitter it was common for people new to fedi to confuse Mastodon with Twitter, or to see Mastodon.social like a centralized behemoth like Twitter. Things like Pleroma or Misskey never really came on the radar, as all they knew was: Mastodon.

That's fine with me. It's only what I've heard.
