My brother is on a holiday trip with his son, they're in Germany now. He just sent us this photo:

(For the uninitiated: in Germany this sign, "end of prohibition or restriction", means what it means in the rest of the world, but also that there's no speed limit from here)

@hans it meant the same in Britain until 1960s, we also had unrestricted speed limit on all roads until then!

The 70mph (112 km/h) limit got introduced from 1965 to 1967 after a number of serious crashes especially on motorways, where drivers did not adjust their speeds correctly according to road conditions in foggy weather..
