I wanted to be able to communicate with #Diaspora* and #OStatus too; #Hubzilla can do that.

Plus, you have "nomadic profiles", which means you can host your account on more than one server AT THE SAME TIME. If your hub/instance goes down, you can simply continue from (one of) the other server(s).

@tivasyk You mean #Hubzilla? I like it too, and I tried several other options before I settled for this: #Mastodon, #Friendica and #Diaspora*.

Glad I picked Hubzilla, because since 2019 I've gathered friends on both Mastodon and Diaspora*.

Yes and no. They only work for Zot/Zot6. If you also use ActivityPub (like I do), then you're screwed. ActivityPub can't handle nomadic profiles.

A clean Hubzilla-only install, like @Tanja has, would make it possible to use nomadic profiles, but I tainted my install with impure protocols and now I pay the price :wink:

ActivityPub can't handle nomadic profiles.

Their loss, as far as I'm concerned :-D.

You can always explain to your AP and d* connections how it works, and connect to them from all locations.

I looked at the original thread on your Mastodon profile. Two things you can pass on from me (without an @-Mention, though ;-)):

There is the pubstream, which does import federated content from people you don't follow, and you can control it somewhat with hashtags.

And he might want to check out Streams, which is simpler as it focuses on the social network aspect as opposed to Hubzilla, which can do all kinds of other stuff. Mike went to great lengths to make it accessible, and I think even for the less technically inclined user it's much easier to understand and configure than Hubzilla. It supports connections to Zot6 and AP.

I would also cite ease of install and update as an advantage for both Hubzilla and Streams. Updating Mastodon doesn't compare. At all.
